Compare · Revit alternative

The Revit alternative
for small firms.

Revit was built for large teams coordinating architecture, structure and MEP in one model. Most small practices pay for that machinery and use a fraction of it. Toras gives you the parts you use every day — the site, the plan, the 3D model and the drawing set — in a browser tab, from day one.

01 / Site

Start on the real site, not a blank grid.

Type an address and Toras brings in the terrain, the neighbouring buildings, the roads and the sun path, ready to design against. In Revit, real-world context means a separate Forma Site Design project or a survey import.

  • Terrain
  • Context buildings
  • Sun path

02 / Model

Draw the plan. The 3D model builds itself.

Walls, doors and windows go down in 2D and stand up in 3D as you draw, with roofs, stairs and every floor in step. No families to load and no template to set up before the first line.

  • Automatic 3D
  • Multi-floor
  • Push-pull

03 / Document

A drawing set that keeps up with you.

Plans, sections, elevations and door and window schedules sit on sheets and update the moment the design changes. Export PDF sets for the client and DXF or IFC for consultants. Consultants who live in Revit get an IFC file they can open.

When Revit is still the right call

Plenty of small firms keep one Revit seat for those jobs and do everything else in Toras.

  • You coordinate structure and MEP with engineers in one shared model.
  • A client or partner requires native RVT files.
  • Your office runs on Revit families, Dynamo scripts or add-ins.

Switching takes an afternoon

Toras speaks the two formats Revit exports best, so nothing you have is stranded.

  1. 01

    Bring the model

Export IFC from Revit and open it in Toras as a reference to design around.

  2. 02

    Bring the drawings

Revit’s DXF exports drop straight into the Toras plan.

  3. 03

    Send it back

Hand consultants who stay on Revit an IFC or DXF of your design.

Questions

Is Toras a BIM tool?

Toras models walls, slabs, roofs, stairs, doors and windows as real building elements, and the drawings update with the design. It is built for architectural design and documentation; for multi-discipline coordination with structure and MEP in one model, Revit is the tool.

Can Toras open Revit files?

Export IFC from Revit and import it into Toras. RVT is Autodesk’s own format and only opens in Revit.

How much does Revit cost?

Revit is $380 a month or $3,005 a year per user. Revit LT, the lighter version, is $70 a month or $560 a year. Students and educators get Revit free.

Does Revit run on a Mac?

Not natively. Autodesk supports Windows 11 inside Parallels Desktop on a Mac, without accelerated graphics. See Revit for Mac for every option.
